Germany's Martin-Gropius-Bau museum of Berlin is to host the "Taswir" exhibition on the pictorial mappings of Islam and modernity between November 5 till January 18.
The exhibition is to focus on calligraphy, ornament and miniatures. It places specimens of classical Islamic art in the context of modern and contemporary output in the fields of graphics, drawing, painting, photography, video art, installation, sound and sculpture, the exhibition's spokesperson Ute Weingarten told on Sunday.
The exhibition will be showing classical exhibits of Quran manuscripts of the most diverse origins as well as Persian and Ottoman calligraphic sheets and sketch books dating from the 16th to the 19th centuries. Imageries in miniatures and painting representing the great Persian epics of famous lovers as "Layla and Majnun" would be displayed.
Over thirty artists from the international art scene such as Tehran, Ramallah, Egypt, Lebanon, Jerusalem, Paris, London, and New York have agreed to take part in the exhibition by showing important works, some of them for the first time in Germany.
Weingarten expressed joy because the museum will display Islamic aesthetic treasures, and will present around 300 art works for many weeks to come.
The exhibition was organized by the German Foreign office in cooperation with other institutes such as the Robert Bosch Foundation and the Allianz Cultural Foundation.
The exhibition contains a comprehensive catalogue of 250 pages including all the Islamic modern and classic works.
